Harrison Bergeron

1) Life in Vietnam would be perfect if everyone were totally equal. Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer in complete sentences.

-I disagree. I think it would not be perfect if everyone were equal. Because, each person individuals, they have different needs. Some needs more than others. So if everyone were equal, the people that needs something more than others, they won't have enough so it is not fair. People won't live a happy life so it would not be perfect for them.

2) You are designing a society in which everyone is equal. What are the laws?

- Everybody must be able to have education
- Everybody must have a house for them to live
- Everybody must have enough food, drink and clothes to wear
- Everybody must be able to go to hospital and have health check

3) What would you do to help people who were less capable mentally, physically, or socially to “catch up”?

- There would be some classes, hospitals to help them with their problems. The rich or successful people have to help the poor and the people that are not as good as them.

4) What problems can you foresee that might come in a society with laws that force “equality for all”? How would you handle those problems?

- I think, if the society with laws that force "equality for all", the world would be very boring. There won't be anything special because everybody are the same. But if there are some smarter people, they would go against the government.
As a citizen, i can do nothing about it beside following the laws that they gave us. But if i am the government, i would make everybody equal in a smart way. Like, smart people would help dump people to make them smarter.

5) Do you believe that total equality is possible, or would human nature make sure that some people would eventually dominate others?

- Of course i don't believe that total equality is possible. It is IMPOSSIBLE! Everybody are different, unique, have their own identity. People have different needs, different amount of needs, that's why it is impossible to make things equal.

6) In what situations have you felt similarly to any of the characters? What persons, places, or ideas from your own experience came to mind while you were reading this story? Try to list as least two examples.

- The way that the government treat and harm the smart, innocent people, it reminds me of how the kindergarten teachers treat badly to the kids. The teachers hurt the kids really badly and the kids cried a lot. Just like in "Harrison Bergeron", the sound in their ears hurt a lot.
- When Harrison stood up the government, it reminds me of when i stood up my mother because she was wrong. I was very mad and i talked back at her and she yelled at me a lot because i talked back. But in my opinion, she was wrong, but of course, in her perspective, she was right. Just like in the story, Harrison thought that what the government did was wrong, so he stood up and talked back. But at the same time, the government believe what they did is right, so they didn't listen to Harrison, and instead, killed him.

Advertisements

1) The advertisements make people my more and more and it increases the consumption. When people buy more products, they will waste more money. They might buy too many products that they don't need and then they just throw it away. When the shops sell all their products already, they have to use fossil fuels to make more products, and it will release more CO2. It will affect to the global warming.

2)I think they don't. Because in the advertisements, they only talk about the good things about the products and the citizens will buy it anyway if they like it. I think at school, the teachers and adults should teach the youth about the bad or negative impacts about the products so they can understand more and many tell their parents if their parents don't know. Or maybe we can post on the internet some of the negative impacts about the products so everybody can read and learn and understand it.

3) I think absolutely yes. Because on every advertisements, they always talk about the good things about the products, not the bad things. They use the celebrities to use the products on their ads and it makes us want to be like the celebrities so we would buy them.
